Migration and Health: Bridging Field Actors, Academia, and WHO

In May 2024, the Geneva Health Forum (GHF) hosted a thematic day dedicated to “Migration: Health and Equity.” This event fostered connections among field practitioners, academic experts, and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO). The Migrant Health Program of the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) was presented, and delegates from the three UN agencies addressing migration (World Health Organization, International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) actively contributed to the discussions.

Following the GHF 2024 conference, the Alliance 4EU+, a consortium of eight European universities, including the University of Geneva, selected “Health and Migration” as a priority focus area under its Flagship 1, “Health and Urban Population.” A preliminary meeting with WHO took place via the GHF on 21-22 November 2024, and a symposium showcasing research from Alliance 4EU+ member universities is scheduled to take place during the World Health Assembly in May 2025.
