A recent conference highlighted the potential of wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), a macro-epidemiological approach that gained significant prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through multidisciplinary efforts, WBE has advanced epidemiological indicators to track epidemic dynamics and detect SARS-CoV-2 variants. Its scope extends to monitoring emerging infections, sexually transmitted infections, antibiotic resistance, and health disparities. The event showcased global projects and explored pathways to integrate WBE into national and international monitoring plans, bridging science and policy to address future infectious outbreaks.
In partnership with, this conference will provide a comprehensive look at the value of wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) in monitoring a range of infections—from respiratory and sexually transmitted diseases to antibiotic resistance. Panels of international experts will share case studies and discuss the integration of WBE into national and international health monitoring strategies, showcasing successful implementations across diverse regions.
